The St. Joseph's Academy Redstickers will head out to square off against the University Lab Cubs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Joseph's Academy is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
On Tuesday, St. Joseph's Academy came up short against Zachary and fell 7-3.
Olivia Gremlllion was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Shelby Chenevert also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, University Lab brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Episcopal a 17-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Cubs, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Gabby Fontenot was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Fontenot was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, London Harvey was a standout: she scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Charlotte Lowe, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.
University Lab always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .812. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.
St. Joseph's Academy's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for University Lab, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-9 record.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Joseph's Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like University Lab struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Joseph's Academy was able to grind out a solid win over University Lab in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 10-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redstickers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
