The Etowah Blue Devils will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Leeds Greenwave at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Etowah had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 66-52 win over Southside. Given Etowah's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Southside is ranked 269th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Leeds came out on top against St. Clair County on Friday by a score of 61-52 (the very same score they lost by the week prior).
It was another big night for Tabari Davis, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Leeds' points. Another player making a difference was Chris Burge, who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
Etowah's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. As for Leeds, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Etowah was able to grind out a solid win over Leeds when the teams last played back in November, winning 60-50. Does Etowah have another victory up their sleeve, or will Leeds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
