Basketball Recap: Jibril Nashid's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Georgetown Day over Washington Leadership Academy

Georgetown Day was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 72-65 to Washington Leadership Academy. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (58), the Mighty Hoppers still had to take the loss.

Several Mighty Hoppers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jibril Nashid, who posted 24 points and eight boards. Those 24 points gave Nashid a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Christian Santos-Silva, who went 8 of 20 en route to 19 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Washington Leadership Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dawaun McLean, who dropped a triple-double on 25 points, 21 boards, and 11 blocks. The match was McLean's third in a row with at least ten points. Amari Clarke was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 assists.

Georgetown Day's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Washington Leadership Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Georgetown Day will take on St. Andrew's Episcopal at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Washington Leadership Academy, they will face off against SEED DC at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
