Centennial hasn't had much luck against Willow Canyon recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Coyotes will challenge the Wildcats at 3:45 p.m. Centennial will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Centennial came out on top against Kellis on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive 13-run fourth inning. The Coyotes never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Coyotes, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Riley Moncrieff looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Centennial got a massive performance out of Jordynn McClain, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Stephanie Olivas-Marrufo, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Centennial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .640. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Willow Canyon suffered their biggest defeat since March 25th on Friday. They lost 8-2 to Canyon View. The Wildcats have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Willow Canyon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Easton Spriggs, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Centennial has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Willow Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Centennial hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .433. However, it's not like Willow Canyon struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Centennial suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Willow Canyon when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Coyotes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
