The Flowing Wells Caballeros''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tucson High Magnet School.
Despite the defeat, Flowing Wells saw an underclassman step up: Benicio Ruiz rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, and also picked up 37 receiving yards. Ruiz was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 56 yards.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tucson High Magnet School to victory, but perhaps none more so than James Diaz, who rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 42 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Prince Mugisha, who rushed for 168 yards.
Tucson High Magnet School's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Taysean Romero and his two sacks.
Flowing Wells' defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Tucson High Magnet School, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-5.
Flowing Wells will head out on the road to face off against Nogales at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Nogales is on a three-game streak of home losses, Flowing Wells a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Tucson High Magnet School will take on Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain View knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Tucson High Magnet School likes a good challenge.
