Severance has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against The Mountain View Mountain Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Severance is ranked 108th, while Mountain View is ranked 103rd).
Severance missed an extra point against Roosevelt on Friday and it came back to haunt them. Severance and Roosevelt were almost perfectly matched up, but Severance suffered an agonizing 28-27 loss. The match was a 7-7 toss-up at halftime, but Severance was just barely outscored by Roosevelt in the second.
Despite the loss, Severance had strong showings from Ian Pennock, who rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown, and Jaden Hoffman, who threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Mountain View lost to Resurrection Christian on the road by a decisive 34-19 margin on Thursday. Mountain View was down 27-6 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the defeat, Mountain View had strong showings from Trent Lawson, who picked up 77 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Bergen Roth, who threw for 180 yards and two touchdowns.
Severance's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Roosevelt, Resurrection Christian, and Thompson Valley. As for Mountain View, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.
Severance was able to grind out a solid win over Mountain View when the teams last played back in October of 2022, winning 19-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Severance since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
