Last Friday, Douglas Byrd was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 40-34 to Purnell Swett.
Despite the loss, Douglas Byrd got a solid performance out of Jazmine Burns, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Burns scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamiyah Carroll, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and six steals.
Meanwhile, Cape Fear stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 82-46 victory over Gray's Creek. Winning may never get old, but Cape Fear sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
It was another big night for Jayda Angel, who scored 44 points. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Cape Fear's points. Another player making a difference was Teralyn Harris, who scored 12 points.
Douglas Byrd's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Cape Fear, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
Douglas Byrd was taken down by Cape Fear 59-26 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Douglas Byrd was down 45-8.
