The Escondido Cougars will play host again and welcome the Valley Center Jaguars, where kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Escondido's last five contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Even though Escondido has not done well against San Marcos recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Escondido narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past San Marcos 2-1. The result kept Escondido happy, as they haven't lost a game since January 19th.
They were led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Carlos Sorto and
Elias Urbina, who scored both of Escondido's goals. The pair have combined for a total of seven so far this season.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Valley Center's offense. They suffered a rough 3-0 defeat at the hands of Mission Hills on Wednesday. Valley Center has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Escondido has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7-5 record this season. As for Valley Center, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14-2.
Escondido beat Valley Center by a goal when the teams last played back in January, winning 1-0. Does Escondido have another victory up their sleeve, or will Valley Center turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
