Leonard Lemons of No. 13 Martin (Arlington) struck lightning not once, but twice Friday in his team's 42-25 win over Temple. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound senior cornerback returned kickoffs 100 and 95 yards for touchdowns in a game his team was was outgained significantly.
According to the
Dallas Morning News, Temple held a 451-287 advantage in yards, but Lemons' two returns and a scoop-and-score were the difference for Martin, which improved to 2-1.
Samari Howard rushed for 178 yards and a touchdown for Temple, which dropped to 2-1.
Martin was one of 10 Top 25 teams to play Friday night, including No. 10 Argyle, which piled up 567 yards and a whopping 37 first downs in a 45-7 win over Anna.
Six games featuring ranked teams played Thursday, including No. 4 Southlake Carroll, which was upset 44-42 by No. 15 Rockwall. The game featured 1,067 total yards and
Braedyn Locke (31 of 44, 352 yards, three touchdowns) outplayed top junior quarterback
Quinn Ewers, who completed 19 of 30 for 326 yards and three touchdowns, but two interceptions.
Southlake Carroll was the only ranked team to lose through Friday.
Now everyone has their attention set for the national game of the year Saturday, when No. 1 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) hits the field against state No. 1 Duncanville. Not only will Florida-Texas bragging rights be on the line, but a Panthers' win could vault them to the top spot in the national rankings as well.
