Football Recap: Strawberry Crest Skates Past Sebring with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Strawberry Crest). They blew past the Sebring Blue Streaks 41-6 on Saturday. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Blue Streaks are ranked 271st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

A big part of Strawberry Crest's win came down to the chemistry between Zoe Surrency and her top target Sonnie Hartman. Surrency threw for 235 yards and five TDs while completing 77.3% of her passes while Hartman picked up 83 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Those 83 receiving yards gave Hartman a new career-high.

Strawberry Crest didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Sebring to a completion percentage of just 41.2%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Hartman and Aniya Blaxton, who each logged one passes deflected. Strawberry Crest hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.65 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Strawberry Crest's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Nasma Ador was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two herself.

Strawberry Crest is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.0 points on average over those games. As for Sebring, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Looking ahead, Strawberry Crest will take on Newsome at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Chargers 7.4, the Wolves 13.4) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Sebring, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 7-0 defeat against Gulf on the 5th.
