On Friday Mount Vernon take on Monroe at Monroe HS at 7:00 PM. If you head out to watch the game, expect to stay the whole 48 minutes: the MaxPreps rankings predict a close match.
After a string of three wins, Mount Vernon's good fortune finally ran out last Friday. They have to be aching after a bruising 7-30 loss to Lake Stevens. Mount Vernon's low-scoring loss was the unsatisfying follow-up to their high-scoring outing the match before.
Meanwhile, Monroe have had to suffer through a 3-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They took their matchup against Mariner by a conclusive 42-10 score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-3.
Monroe's win lifted them to 1-3 while Mount Vernon's defeat dropped them down to 3-1. In their win, Monroe relied heavily on junior Blake Rybar, who rushed for 175 yards and 4 touchdowns. Mount Vernon will need to find a way to minimize his impact if they want to win.
