Given Coahulla Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe is ranked 441st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coahulla Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carter Quarles, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Quarles has scored all season. Cullen Marti was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zyan Eastman, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Coahulla Creek's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. As for Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.
Coahulla Creek won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Northwest Whitfield at 4:30 p.m. on January 13th. As for Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, they will head out on the road to square off against Gordon Lee at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
