Basketball Recap: Xavior Scruggs' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rosemont over Argonaut

Rosemont lost against Argonaut back in December of 2019 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Rosemont Wolverines took a 65-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Argonaut Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 900th, while the Mustangs are ranked 424th).

Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Xavior Scruggs, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 21 points. The dominant performance gave Scruggs a new career-high in points. Connor Irion was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Argonaut found their leader in sophomore JJ Lungren, who went 10 of 22 en route to 24 points and six rebounds. With that strong performance, Lungren is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariano Lopez, who posted nine points and three steals.

Rosemont is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10. As for Argonaut, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-4.

Rosemont will be playing at home against Bradshaw Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rosemont is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.9 points per game this season. As for Argonaut, they will venture away from home to square off against Amador at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Argonaut's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
