The Brandon Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Petal Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brandon will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Last Friday, Brandon made easy work of Mendenhall and carried off a 13-2 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by eight runs or more this season.
Evie Pickard made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Pickard was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Chloe Jenkins was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Lila Harrison was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
Brandon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Petal faced Sumrall in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Panthers fell just short of the Bobcats by a score of 8-7. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Morgan Taylor and Taylor Foster stepped up to the plate in a big way. Taylor went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Foster went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Kenzie Cochran also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Petal's loss dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Brandon, their record is now 17-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Brandon has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Petal struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
