The Mishawaka Marian Knights will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Bremen Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mishawaka Marian is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
Two weeks ago, Mishawaka Marian was beaten by Penn 64-19. The game marked the Knights' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Despite the loss, Mishawaka Marian saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kariya Byer posted eight points and ten rebounds. That was a full 42.1% of Mishawaka Marian's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Epi Sete, who put up seven points.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bremen, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They took their matchup on Thursday with ease, bagging a 70-35 victory over Triton. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 26 points or more this season.
Mishawaka Marian better keep an eye on Kila Foster. She was instrumental in Bremen's win, going 9 of 18 on her way to 24 points and five steals. That's the most steals Foster has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliana Grubbs, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards.
Bremen was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Triton only posted seven assists.
Mishawaka Marian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Bremen, their win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mishawaka Marian has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Bremen struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Mishawaka Marian was dealt a bruising 69-34 loss at the hands of Bremen when the teams last played back in October of 2023. Can Mishawaka Marian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
