The Brookside Cardinals are taking a road trip to square off against the Fairview Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
It was a proper cat-fight when Brookside faced off against Keystone on Friday. The Cardinals lost 10-0 to the Wildcats. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Brookside saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austin Lara, who went 1-for-2 with one double. Trevor Kitzberger also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Fairview entered their tilt with Trinity on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Trojans 15-5. Considering the Warriors have won five contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Dylan Sather was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Fairview: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Weir, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.
Fairview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .571 or higher in three consecutive games.
Brookside's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Fairview, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Brookside has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Fairview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Brookside came out on top in a nail-biter against Fairview when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
