Even though The Tombstone Yellow Jackets have not done well against the Bisbee Pumas recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Tombstone strolled past Bisbee with points to spare, taking the game 36-20. Tombstone pushed the score to 36-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Bisbee cut but never quite recovered from.
Sebastian Jones was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns. DJ Elias got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Tombstone's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jacob Weichelt.
Several Pumas players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryceton Meyer, who rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and also picked up 31 receiving yards. Meyer's longest rush was for an incredible 84 yards. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Lopez, who threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns.
The victory was the third in a row for Tombstone, bringing their record for this year to 8-2. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 43.67 points. As for Bisbee, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-5.
Tombstone will take on Palo Verde at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Palo Verde is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Bisbee, they will head out on the road to face off against Camp Verde at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Camp Verde knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Bisbee likes a good challenge.
