Sumner has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Brandon Eagles at 8:00 p.m. on January 17th. Sumner knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matches -- so hopefully Brandon likes a good challenge.
Sumner's game on Tuesday was all tied up 33-33 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 70-69 to Robinson. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Friday (64), Sumner still had to take the loss.
Sumner's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Isaiah Williams, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds, and Jacob Douglas who scored 15 points along with six assists and two steals. Douglas has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Devin Baker, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Brandon, who are still winless after their 11th matchup. Their tough 63-38 loss to Strawberry Crest on Saturday might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Brandon has suffered since December 1, 2023.
They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Tyler Cole and
Nigel Pinnock, who each put up no points.
Sumner's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5. As for Brandon, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.
Wednesday's contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Sumner hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 61.2 points per game. It's a different story for Brandon, though, as they've been averaging only 17.1 points per game. The only thing between Sumner and another offensive beatdown is Brandon. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for Sumner against Brandon when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 72-32 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sumner since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
