It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Stone Memorial ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Livingston Academy Wildcats 5-4. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Kenzie Jackson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ashely Whittenburg was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Stone Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Livingston Academy only posted a batting average of .182.
Stone Memorial pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Livingston Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stone Memorial will head out to challenge Monterey at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Livingston Academy, they will venture away from home to take on Cumberland County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
