The Mergenthaler Vo-Tech Mustangs will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Poly Engineers at 5:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mergenthaler Vo-Tech has struggled recently with eight defeats in a row, while Poly will arrive with five straight victories.
Last Friday, Mergenthaler Vo-Tech had to suffer through a rough 41-3 loss at the hands of Coppin Academy. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mergenthaler Vo-Tech has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Poly can now show off 15 landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They breezed by City College on the road to the tune of 75-15. Given Poly's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while City College is ranked 86th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Poly found their leader in underclassman London Elliot, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sierra Georges, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Mergenthaler Vo-Tech's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Poly, their victory bumped their record up to 20-1.
Mergenthaler Vo-Tech was taken down by Poly 113-13 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Will Mergenthaler Vo-Tech have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other basketball content.
