The Mayfair Monsoons lost against the Downey Vikings back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Mayfair took a serious blow against Downey, falling 49-14. Mayfair was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.
Although Mayfair took the loss, they still got scores from Aidan Sullivan and Louis Johnson.
Leading Downey to victory were Victor Morales and Oscar Rios. Morales rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, while Rios threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. Caleb Jauregui was another key contributor, throwing for 49 yards and a touchdown on only two passes.
Mayfair's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Downey, their victory was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 7-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mayfair will take on Norwalk at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Norwalk is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. As for Downey, they will be playing in front of their home fans against La Mirada at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. La Mirada will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 307th, while Downey is ranked 98th).
