Video: Dorman beats Dutch Fork in state championship
Highlights of the Cavaliers winning their fourth consecutive 5A state title.
Third-ranked 3 Dorman (Roebuck, S.C.)
started the game on a commanding 11-0 run and never looked back Friday night, breezing past Dutch Fork (Irmo)
65-47 to capture its fourth consecutive SCHSL Class AAAAA state title.
The game was never in doubt, as the Cavaliers methodically increased their advantage to 37-15 at the half, before stretching their lead to as many as 26 points in the second half.
Dorman was paced by their all-time leading scorer and Butler-signee Myles Tate
, who finished with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists, while big man P.J. Hall
, a Clemson-signee, chipped in 16 points and 12 rebounds.
The dominant win is nothing new for the Palmetto State powerhouse, as it has outscored in-state opponents by an average of more than 34 points per contest this season. They also increased its in-state win streak to 59 games dating back to January of 2018.
The 18-point title game victory was, however, the largest margin of victory in a state title game for the Cavaliers during their four-year run, defeating Berkeley (Moncks Corner) 46-39 last year, Irmo (Columbia) 44-33 in 2017-18 and Blythewood 54-53 in 2016-17.
Dorman (30-1) still has one more stop on the schedule this season, as the SCHSL recently ruled to allow members to attend GEICO Nationals.
The Cavaliers look to become the first Public School to advance past the semifinal round of the national championship event, that will be held next month in New York.
Dutch Fork (21-10) wrapped up a terrific season as state runner-up for just the second time in program history, with its first state championship game appearance coming in 2002-03.
