Basketball Recap: Charlotte Catholic Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Megan Shea and Maggie Kernodle

After a string of three wins, Charlotte Catholic's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of the Athens Academy Spartans by a score of 51-48. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 217th in North Carolina, while the Spartans are ranked 46th in Georgia).

Charlotte Catholic's loss came despite strong showings from Maggie Kernodle and Megan Shea. Kernodle posted 23 points, while Shea dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. With that strong performance, Kernodle is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Another player making a difference was Mia Pisacano, who put up ten points.

Charlotte Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Athens Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.

Charlotte Catholic will be taking part in a tournament against East Coweta at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Athens Academy, they will take on St. Pius X Catholic in a tournament on Monday. St. Pius X Catholic will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Athens Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
