METAMORA, Ill. - After trading leads two times,
Metamora (Ill.) snatched the lead for good when
Tim Brennan ran for a touchdown in the second quarter, paving the way for victory over
Dunlap (Ill.) 33-20.
After taking the lead on a Brennan touchdown run in the second quarter, the Redbirds were up 21-14 at the half.
Each side put up six points during the third quarter, and at the beginning of the fourth it was still a seven point game.
The result came as a big surprise as the Eagles came in ranked No. 150 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Illinois, while Metamora was ranked No. 215.
MHS also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 55-16.
With the win the Redbirds extended their winning streak to three games.
In a Mid-Illini game next week Metamora (3-2) takes on Pekin, and Dunlap (2-3) will go up against Canton also in a Mid-Illini game.
