The Columbia City Eagles will challenge the Carroll Chargers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Columbia City has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Monday, Columbia City sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Norwell.
Emma Hiss made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
Hiss wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lacie Friend, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Carroll hadn't done well against South Bend Saint Joseph recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Chargers walked away with a 9-4 win over the Huskies.
Izzy Rapson and Lily Schultz did most of the damage at the plate: Rapson went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Schultz went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. Macie Lada was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Carroll lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Bend Saint Joseph didn't launched any home runs.
Carroll has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Columbia City, their win bumped their record up to 15-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Columbia City hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Carroll struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Columbia City skirted past Carroll 3-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
