Football Recap: Nate Russell Key Part of Team Effort in Hurricanes Win

Cartersville won the last time they faced Rockmart and things went their way on Friday too. The Hurricanes were the clear victors by a 39-14 margin over the Yellowjackets. The Hurricanes' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Cartersville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nate Russell, who threw for 191 yards and five TDs on only 12 passes. Those five passing touchdowns gave Russell a new career-high. Tripp Chatmon helped Russell out on the ground, rushing for 47 yards and one score, while also catching one touchdown.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Cartersville proved: they limited Rockmart to a paltry 3.3 yards per carry. The team can thank Elijah Peeks for the heroic effort on defense: he. Cartersville didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 11.4.

Despite the defeat, Rockmart had strong showings from Gavin Green, who picked up 144 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, and Tucker Parson, who threw for 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 passes. Green's longest reception was for an impressive 65 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.

Cartersville has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 14 points this season. As for Rockmart, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
