The Coral Glades Jaguars will take on the Cypress Bay Lightning at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Coral Glades will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
If Coral Glades beats Cypress Bay with five runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Coral Glades sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Pompano Beach on Thursday.
Coral Glades got a great performance from Charlie Beaty as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Tyler Villanueva was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Shawn Whoriskey also deserves some recognition as he hit his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cypress Bay). They put the hurt on Monarch with a sharp 18-4 win on Friday. With that victory, the Lightning brought their scoring average up to 8.4 runs per game.
Collin Hatfield looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Cypress Bay got a massive performance out of Michael Ramos, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Diego Baron was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Cypress Bay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now hit at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Coral Glades pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Cypress Bay, their record now sits at 2-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Coral Glades has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cypress Bay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Coral Glades came up short against Cypress Bay in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, falling 8-4. Can Coral Glades avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
