Basketball Recap: Hartsville Falls Despite Big Games from Brooke Mitchell and Zenaria Gibson

Hartsville lost against Lake City back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Hartsville Red Foxes lost to the Lake City Panthers on the road by a 43-25 margin. The Red Foxes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Hartsville had strong showings from Zenaria Gibson, who posted six points, and Brooke Mitchell, who earned six points and eight rebounds. What's more, Gibson also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in January of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lake City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hannah Riles, who put up nine points and five steals. Riles is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jayda Burgess, who had eight points in addition to nine rebounds and three blocks.

Hartsville's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Lake City, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4.

Hartsville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 63-34 defeat against Lower Richland on the 7th. As for Lake City, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 43-40 victory against Atlantic Collegiate Academy on the 7th.
