The Winchester Community Golden Falcons will head out on the road to square off against the Union City Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Winchester Community's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Union City's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Winchester Community managed to slip by Knightstown the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Golden Falcons came up short against the Panthers on Tuesday, falling 13-3. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Golden Falcons, who until this game were averaging 3.8 runs allowed.
Aidan Weatherhead and Landen Porfidio stepped up to the plate in a big way. Weatherhead went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Porfidio went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Jacoby Addington also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Union City can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They never let Tri get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. With that win, the Indians brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Brayden Huggins, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trendon Spence, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Having lost for the first time this season, Winchester Community fell to 4-1. As for Union City, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Winchester Community has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Union City struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Winchester Community skirted past Union City 3-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Golden Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
