Baseball Recap: Western's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Western walked away with it. They blew past the Doral Academy Red Rock Dragons 15-6 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Edwin Moreno made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Western is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 9-10 otherwise. Moreno was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Edgar Garcia was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three doubles. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Saul Benitez Tapia also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Western kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

With the win, Western broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-11. As for Doral Academy Red Rock, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13-1 record this season.

Western will square off against Silverado at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Skyhawks' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Doral Academy Red Rock does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
