The Ellinwood Eagles were the 51-45 winner over the Ness City Eagles when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Ellinwood received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 48-33 to the Eagles. Ellinwood has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Ellinwood saw an underclassman step up: Reece Stickney scored 19 points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Schlessiger, who scored two points along with ten rebounds and four blocks.
Ashlyn Tillitson was a one-man wrecking crew for Ness City as she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tillitson has scored all season. Savannah Buller was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Ellinwood has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Ness City, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ellinwood will take on the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Kansas (Lyons is ranked 309th, while the Eagles are ranked 289th). As for Ness City, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th. St. John will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
