Pewitt and Maud are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but likely not for long. The Brahmas are taking a road trip to challenge the Cardinals at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Pewitt is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Pewitt is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Detroit on Friday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 3-2. The Brahmas' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Pewitt saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eryn Latham, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Maud came out on top against Rivercrest on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Cardinals' pitcher stepped up to hand the Rebels a 7-0 shutout. Considering the Cardinals have won 15 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Keira Mangtamag was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played.
In other batting news, Elli Sidwell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. She has been hot, having posted three or more hits the last six times she's played. Jaxie Dumont also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Maud is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Pewitt, their loss dropped their record down to 12-8.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pewitt has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .513. However, it's not like Maud struggles in that department as they've averaged .489. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pewitt couldn't quite get it done against Maud when the teams last played back in March as they fell 4-0. Can the Brahmas avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
