McComb had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-12 to make it 11. They came up short against the Franklin County Bulldogs, falling 26-4. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 13-12.
Aubrey Anderson was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Shatavia Turner, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
As for Franklin County, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-12 record. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
On Franklin County's side, Olivia Ballard was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave Ballard a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Jhalayah Tillman was incredible, firing off two home runs, eight RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-3. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Joslynn Matthews, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McComb will head out to face off against South Pike at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.71 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Franklin County, they will head out on the road to challenge Port Gibson at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
