Bishop Manogue's run defense was locked in: Damonte Ranch could only muster 3.3 yards per carry. While two picked up at least five total tackles, McGruder stood above the rest. Bishop Manogue didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of McGruder and Nate Simmons. McGruder got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Reed made easy work of Douglas on Thursday and carried off a 49-28 victory. Considering the Raiders have won three matchups by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Reed's win came from a few key players Bishop Manogue will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Bronwyn Rios, who rushed for 114 yards and a pair of scores. He is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Bishop Manogue is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.8 points over those games. As for Reed, their record is now 6-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Bishop Manogue has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 178.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Reed struggles in that department as they've been averaging 198.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Bishop Manogue didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Reed in their previous meeting back in October, but they still walked away with a 52-48 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Rios, who rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry, and also threw for 87 yards and one TD. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Miners still be able to contain Rios? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
