Basketball Recap: Bridgeton Takes a Loss

If Bridgeton was feeling good fresh off their 68-19 takedown of Cape May County Tech last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bridgeton Bulldogs took a 51-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Egg Harbor Township Eagles on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost seven in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Bridgeton lost, don't look at Jameell Purnell. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds. Purnell is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 21 games he's played dating back to last season. Jeremiah Russell was another key player, putting up seven points.

Even though they lost, Bridgeton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Bridgeton's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Egg Harbor Township, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bridgeton will venture away from home to square off against Atlantic City at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Egg Harbor Township, they will square off against Atlantic County Institute of Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
