The Roy Royals pushed their score all the way to 65 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Viewmont on the road by a decisive 84-65 margin. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (56), Roy still had to take the loss.
Roy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bronson Belnap, who scored 20 points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Dahlen Pontius, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Viewmont's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Preston Weaver, who scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Weaver has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Larsen, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Roy and nudges their season record down to 9-8. As for Viewmont, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roy will take on Northridge at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Roy likes a good challenge. As for Viewmont, they will head out on the road to square off against Bountiful at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
