Bronaugh and Sheldon are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The pair will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Bronaugh is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
Last Wednesday, Bronaugh was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 52-47 to Jefferson Independent Day. Bronaugh has struggled against Jefferson Independent Day recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their defeat, Bronaugh saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jada Brundridge, who scored 12 points along with four steals, was perhaps the best of all. Gretchen Banes was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Bronaugh smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. This was only their ninth loss (out of 11 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Meanwhile, Sheldon earned a 28-15 victory over Northeast on Wednesday. The win was just what Sheldon needed coming off of a 67-42 loss in their prior game.
Mariam Lamb was her usual excellent self, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Sheldon's points. Another player making a difference was Wynsdae Connelly, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Bronaugh has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season. As for Sheldon, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Bronaugh have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Sheldon, though, as they've been averaging only 24.5 rebounds per game. Given Bronaugh's sizeable advantage in that area, Sheldon will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bronaugh beat Sheldon 45-33 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bronaugh since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
