Caldwell is a perfect 4-0 against Shadyside since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Redskins will venture away from home to face off against the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Caldwell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Caldwell's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Shenandoah with a sharp 12-0 victory. The Redskins haven't had any issues with the Zeps recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Caldwell let Sophia Marshall and Asie Poland run wild. Marshall went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Poland scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most hits Marshall has posted since back in April of 2024. Laynie Sidwell was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Shadyside came up short against Bridgeport on Wednesday and fell 8-3. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ariana Saxton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Shadyside saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brianna Harris, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Harris' first of the season.
Caldwell's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Shadyside, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Shadyside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Caldwell has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. It's a different story for Shadyside, though, as they've only averaged .309. Will they be able to contain Caldwell's hitters?
Everything went Caldwell's way against Shadyside in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Caldwell made off with a 12-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redskins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
