Basketball Game Preview: Ron Brown Monarchs vs. Roosevelt Roughriders

Ron Brown hasn't had much luck against Roosevelt recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Ron Brown Monarchs will take on the Roosevelt Roughriders in a holiday battle at at 5:30 p.m. Ron Brown is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.7 points per game this season.

Ron Brown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: McKinley Tech, who was ranked sixth at the time (Ron Brown was ranked 20th). Ron Brown took a 59-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of McKinley Tech on Wednesday.

Despite the loss, Ron Brown saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lennox Walker posted 21 points along with six rebounds and six steals. The game was Walker's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrin Rado, who had nine points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Ron Brown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Roosevelt entered their contest against Cardozo on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Roosevelt fell just short of Cardozo by a score of 81-79. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Monday (63), the Roughriders still had to take the loss.

Ron Brown's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Roosevelt, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.

Ron Brown was taken down by Roosevelt 81-41 when the teams last played back in January. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Ron Brown was down 52-27.
