Basketball Recap: Annalee Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Northeastern over Mechanicsburg

Northeastern made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mechanicsburg, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Jets fell just short of the Indians by a score of 40-37 on Saturday. On the bright side, the 37- point performance marked the Jets' highest-scoring game to date.

Northeastern lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Annalee Williams, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. Williams is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Danielle Phelan, who posted eight points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.

Northeastern is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3. As for Mechanicsburg, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-2.

Looking ahead, Northeastern will challenge Triad at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Jets will be up against the Cardinals' rather soft defense (which has allowed 67 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mechanicsburg, they will venture away from home to face off against West Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
