Big VIII recap October 1, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Joseph Muriel and Praise Obiezu connected against La Quinta. The connection was good for 70 yards, the longest such play in Big VIII this season.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, King beat Citrus Hill 24-17. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Wolves.
Blake Barnett provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Santiago fell to Upland. He completed 26 passes for 350 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 89 yards. Barnett's key target this week was Jordan Huffman, who caught 9 passes for 125 yards.
Cory Young was a beast in the backfield as Norco defeated La Serna.
Muriel threw for 428 yards and 6 touchdowns. He went 22-33 with 0 interception.
Obiezu had a great week catching the football as Roosevelt topped the Blackhawks. He caught 7 passes for 214 yards.
Obiezu was the best wideout in the league this week as the Mustangs bested La Quinta. Obiezu tallied 7 receptions for 214 yards. Marcus Williams helped Roosevelt's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 121 yards.
Roosevelt's Muriel and Obiezu led Big VIII in both passing and receiving yards. Muriel has thrown for 1,469 yards this season, while Obiezu has 20 catches for 477 yards. Tre Watson from Centennial leads the league in rushing with 1,186 yards.
King scaled the state rankings by moving to 123 from 217 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Kevin Corridan's team was able to move up by defeating the Hawks 24-17.
