The Mattawan Wildcats had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They came out on top against Norrix by a score of 47-34. For Mattawan, this counts as revenge for the 40-38 loss Norrix walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Mattawan was led to victory by Caitlin Ryan and Delaney Elsmore. Ryan scored 12 points along with seven steals, while Elsmore dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Elsmore has scored at least a third of Mattawan's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Meghan Duell, who scored two points along with eight rebounds.
Mattawan pushed their record up to 7-4 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Norrix, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Mattawan will head out on the road to challenge Grandville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Michigan (Grandville is ranked 210th, while Mattawan is ranked 230th). As for Norrix, they will be playing at home against Union at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Union has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 19.
