Baseball Recap: Greenbrier East Has No Trouble Against Nicholas County

Greenbrier East never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Nicholas County on Monday. They put the hurt on the Grizzlies with a sharp 14-2 victory. Considering the Spartans have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Eli Green spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Zion Detko was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since April 2nd. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Cochran, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Greenbrier East is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Nicholas County, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenbrier East will challenge Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Nicholas County, they will square off against Midland Trail at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
