Baseball Game Preview: Fishers Tigers vs. Greenfield-Central Cougars

Fishers is 7-2 against Greenfield-Central since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Tigers will challenge the Cougars at 10:00 a.m. The last four games Fishers has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Fishers hadn't beaten Noblesville on the road since April 14, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Tigers skirted past the Millers 2-1.

Hayden Werner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Fishers' victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Deagan Repp, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Mayo Fernandez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Greenfield-Central came up short against Delta on Thursday and fell 7-4.

Zander Cobb made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Fishers' win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Greenfield-Central, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fishers has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Greenfield-Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Fishers took their victory against Greenfield-Central when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
