The Del Norte Knights lost against the Highland Hornets back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Del Norte took a 39-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of Highland. Del Norte has not had much luck with Highland recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Del Norte's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angelo Bermudez, who scored 15 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bermudez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Pedro Padron, who scored five points along with two steals.
It was another big night for Jesus Licon, who scored 27 points along with three blocks for Highland. Licon is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Raul Stanford was another key contributor, scoring three points along with seven rebounds.
Del Norte's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-12. As for Highland, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Del Norte will take on Pecos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Pecos is ranked 55th, while Del Norte is ranked 78th). As for Highland, they will be playing at home against Manzano at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
