Baseball Recap: Beaufort Academy Sets Scoring Season-High Against Whale Branch

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Beaufort Academy). They put the hurt on the Whale Branch Warriors with a sharp 20-9 victory on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Denver Jones made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Beaufort Academy let Keeler Dineen and Hayes Tanner run wild. Dineen got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Tanner got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Dineen has become a key player for Beaufort Academy: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jace Paulk, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Beaufort Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .608. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Beaufort Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Whale Branch, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.

Whale Branch will face off against Hardeeville at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Beaufort Academy will be paying especially close attention to the Warriors' contest: after the Warriors face off against Battery Creek, they'll take on Beaufort Academy again at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
