While it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, the Affton Cougars were not quite the Hazelwood Central Hawks's equal in the second half on Thursday. Affton took a 43-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hazelwood Central. While losing is never fun, Affton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 352nd, while Hazelwood Central is ranked 131st).
Despite the loss, Affton still got an impressive performance from Anna M daughtry, who scored 11 points along with seven steals. M daughtry is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Affton has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Hazelwood Central, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-3.
Affton will head out on the road to square off against Hickman at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hickman knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Affton likes a good challenge. Hazelwood Central will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against McCluer at 9:00 a.m. on January 20th. McCluer is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
