Micah Olu continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 260 yards and six TDs while picking up 13.0 yards per carry, and also catching one score. He has become a key player for Wake Forest: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Landen Perry, who threw for 135 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine passes.
Garner hadn't beaten Fuquay - Varina on the road since November 1, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them two weeks ago. The Trojans came out on top against the Bengals by a score of 34-21. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Bengals are ranked 76th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wake Forest better keep an eye on Amir Wallace. He was instrumental in Garner's win, rushing for 134 yards and one TD on only ten carries. Those 134 rushing yards gave Wallace a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Clinard, who threw for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Garner was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 250 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 185 rushing yards in nine consecutive matchups.
Garner's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Joseph Cappelletti, Tyquan Richardson, and Ryan Hebert, who each picked up one sack apiece. Cappelletti was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles.
Wake Forest's record is now 7-4. As for Garner, their record now sits at 7-3.
Everything went Wake Forest's way against Garner when the teams last played back in November of 2023, as Wake Forest made off with a 42-19 victory. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
