Truckee is 8-2 against Elko since September of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wolverines will look to defend their home field against the Indians at 7:00 p.m. Truckee is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 26.7 points per game this season.
On Saturday, Truckee came up short against Fernley and fell 38-29. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 225th in California, while the Vaqueros are ranked 13th in Nevada).
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Ivan Esparza and Keeshawn Love. Love had a great game and rushed for 178 yards and one score. Meanwhile, Esparza did his best for the losing side, rushing for 66 yards and one TD.
Meanwhile, Elko put another one in the bag last Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 50-7 win over South Tahoe. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-0.
Truckee better keep an eye on Ethan Kraintz. He was instrumental in Elko's win, throwing for 89 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Kraintz a new career-high in passer rating (163.2).
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Elko proved: they limited South Tahoe to a paltry 2.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Ryder Miller for the heroic effort on defense: he. Elko's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.2.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Elko, racking up 19 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Coy Jones, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from him.
Truckee's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Elko, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Truckee took their win against Elko when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 31-8 score. In that matchup, the Wolverines amassed a halftime lead of 21-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
