Basketball Game Preview: Green River Pirates vs. Escalante Moquis

The Green River Pirates will venture away from home to square off against the Escalante Moquis at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Green River knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Escalante likes a good challenge.

Green River is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Pinnacle: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Green River blew Pinnacle out of the water with a 71-40 final score. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Pirates have posted against the Panthers since January 14, 2020.

Green River got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Antonio Macias out in front who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. Those 27 points gave Macias a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rolando Anguiano, who posted 13 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Green River was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pinnacle only posted eight assists.

Meanwhile, Escalante really took it to Telos for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-24 win. That 37 point margin sets a new team best for the Moquis this season.

Green River's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.3 points. As for Escalante, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.

Green River came up short against Escalante in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 68-59. Can Green River avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
